The great poets Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, maybe you’ve heard of them, once wrote, “If you start me up, I’ll never stop.” Sure, the song was a metaphor about a car or whatever, but it also holds some wisdom for the game of volleyball.
Volleyball is a game of momentum, and good things often happen when a team starts a set off on a run. Sets to 25 are mini-marathons and comebacks do happen, but you would much rather start strong and see if things can snowball positively than try to stop the other team’s momentum.
The importance of having those proverbial moves like Jagger (look, I hate myself for writing that as much as you did for reading it) has been at the forefront for the Wisconsin Badgers during the start of Big Ten play.
