Mick Byrne calls the goals set by Michael Lihrman “crazy,” but the University of Wisconsin’s director of track and field and cross country likes the way the senior thinks.
Lihrman obliterated his own Big Ten Conference record in the hammer throw on Saturday in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, his mark of 243 feet at the LSU Alumni Gold meet nearly 10 feet better than his old mark of 233-3.
“He threw what looked like a 75-meter throw on his second attempt of the finals, but had a foot foul,” Byrne said. “He wants to achieve the IIAF Olympic Standard of 78 meters, which is a totally crazy standard because only 10 throwers hit that mark last year.
