On a day when Michael Phelps was causing a buzz, four University of Wisconsin athletes also reached the podium at the U.S. national championships on Sunday night.
Ryan Stack, Cannon Clifton, Matt Hutchins and Nathan Mueller earned the honor by winning the 800-meter freestyle relay in San Antonio, Texas.
The Badgers finished in 7 minutes, 23.37 seconds in the day’s final event. Stack led off with a 1:51.87 split, which also marked a new Olympic trial cut for the Kailua, Hawaii native.
