University of Wisconsin freshman catcher Melanie Cross was named the Big Ten Conference's Freshman of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
Cross helped the Badgers go 4-1 last week. She batted .500 (7 for 14) with five RBIs and three runs scored overall. Cross had three hits in one game against Michigan State, including her second home run of the season.
This is the first time Cross has won a weekly Big Ten honor.
