Taylor-Paige Stewart was solid in long relief and the University of Wisconsin softball team’s offense did just enough Friday to produce a 5-1 victory against Rutgers in the opener of a three-game Big Ten Conference series in Piscataway, New Jersey.
Stewart (9-17) entered with two outs in the first inning and the junior finished, scattering seven hits and allowing one run in the seventh to help snap UW’s seven-game losing streak.
The Badgers (20-30, 4-16 Big Ten), who had just nine hits total in a doubleheader loss to Minnesota two days earlier, produced seven hits against the Scarlet Knights (28-18, 10-11).
