EUGENE, Ore. — Third-ranked Oregon served notice early that it had no intention of getting locked into another intense battle with the University of Wisconsin softball team.
The Ducks scored four runs in the first inning and then rode the one-hit pitching of freshman Miranda Elish to a 9-0 victory in five innings Sunday to win the Eugene regional and advance to super regionals.
Oregon (50-6) will host Kentucky this week in a best-of-three series, with the winner advancing to the College World Series in Oklahoma City.
The Ducks struggled against UW freshman pitcher Kaitlyn Menz for much of Saturday’s game, but they took control quickly on Sunday.
