Madison — Consider the 2014 season Michael Deiter's apprenticeship at Wisconsin.
The freshman offensive lineman did not play but worked in practice with both the No. 1 and No. 2 units enough that he was prepared to step-in at center or guard if injuries decimated the top line.
Now preparing for his redshirt freshman season, Deiter is set to start at right guard as UW hopes to adequately replace three starters from a unit that paved the way for 4,482 rushing yards and 46 touchdowns, and allowed only 13 sacks in 14 games last season.
