Bolstered by four runners in the top 17, the University of Wisconsin women finished in third place on Friday at the NCAA cross country Great Lakes regional meet at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course at University Ridge — and made a strong case for an at-large bid to the NCAA championships in the process.
Freshman Alicia Monson covered the 6,000-meter course in 20:21.6 to lead the unranked Badgers, who tied with No. 22 Michigan State for third with 97 points but gained the edge on a sixth-runner tiebreaker.
