Eddie Wajda III carried the University of Wisconsin golf banner into enemy territory Thursday and came away with the "W." Make that a motion "W."
Wajda, who will be a sophomore at UW this fall, won the 114th Wisconsin State Amateur Championship with a come-from-behind victory at Erin Hills in Erin, one of the courses the Marquette men's golf team calls home. And Wajda fought off a flock of Golden Eagles to win it.
His final-round 70 — mistake-free until a bogey on the final hole — gave him a 72-hole total of 5-over-par 293 and a one-stroke victory over current Marquette golfer Patrick Sanchez (72) and future Golden Eagle Matthew Bachmann (70), 17, a senior-to-be at Sheboygan Falls.
