Madison — Joel Stave hasn't completely erased the painful memories of a 2014 season that ranged from demoralizing to rousing.
"It was an up and down year for me, obviously," Stave said.
For the fourth consecutive year, the former walk-on from Whitnall High School enters preseason camp eager to secure the starting position.
Stave finished No. 2 behind Danny O'Brien in 2012 with Bret Bielema as head coach. He emerged from camp as the starter in 2013 under first-year coach Gary Andersen and started all 13 games. He lost his starting job to Tanner McEvoy last summer but regained the job after the offense sputtered in the Big Ten opener at Northwestern and went on to start the final nine games of the season.
