The 14th-ranked University of Wisconsin women's soccer team aced its first test.

McKenna Meuer scored in the second overtime and the Badgers escaped with a 2-1 victory over Western Michigan in the season opener for both teams at McClimon Soccer Complex in Madison.
The winning tally came at 105 minutes, 42 seconds after Micaela Powers' deep throw in. Meuer, a senior midfielder, was in the box and scored the winner on a header.
Western Michigan had tied the match at 1-1 on a goal by Olivia Vollmers off a corner kick at 79:12.
Rose Lavelle scored the first goal of the season for the Badgers from point-blank range at 65:17.
