Winnipeg Jets head coach Paul Maurice on Saturday got his first extended look of what 3-on-3 sudden death overtime will look like in the upcoming NHL season and he came away sounding both a bit bewildered and a bit excited.
The Jets used the third period of an afternoon scrimmage at training camp on Saturday to play exclusively 3-on-3, which this coming season will replace the 4-on-4 five minute overtime format the NHL used to use.
"Three-on-three is going to be both interesting and exciting and there’s a lot to work on," said Maurice. "And not just plays, but strategies and how you change.
