The Winnipeg Jets made huge strides in 2017-18, setting a franchise record with 52 regular-season wins and rampaging through the first two rounds of the post-season before meeting a better team in the eventual Western Conference champion (Las) Vegas Golden Knights.
Virtually every move GM Kevin Cheveldayoff made turned out to be a great one, especially his trade for former St. Louis Blues centre Paul Stastny, who was a central contributor down the stretch and in the playoffs.
Now comes the harder part — keeping as much of this well-balanced group together despite the squeezings of the salary cap.
