The 2017 first-round draft pick was one of five players assigned to the Manitoba Moose, the Jets' American Hockey League affiliate.
With the continued absences of two high-scoring wingers, restricted free agents Patrik Laine and Kyle Connor, Vesalainen was pegged as a candidate for work on the NHL club's top-nine forward group.
