Fifty-three players reported for physical testing as on-ice sessions for Winnipeg Jets training camp opened today at the MTS Iceplex.
Seven players, however, were conspicuous by their absence.
Goaltenders Connor Hellebuyck and Ondrej Pavelec, defencemen Dustin Byfuglien and Jacob Trouba and forwards Blake Wheeler, Mark Scheifele and Patrik Laine have all been playing at the ongoing World Cup of Hockey and, although their respective teams have been eliminated from contention, the time of their return to Winnipeg is unknown.
