Jets fall 3-1 to Flames in opening tilt of Young Stars Classic

PENTICTON, B.C. — A poor start doomed the Winnipeg Jets rookies to a disappointing fate on Friday.

The Jets fell behind 2-0 in the first 10 minutes and eventually lost 3-1 to the prospects of the Calgary Flames in the first game of the four-team Canucks Young Stars Classic at the South Okanagan Events Centre.

Bryce Van Brabant and Ryan Lomberg cashed goals on Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck on Calgary’s first seven shots.

Brendan Lemieux got the Jets on the board with just 15 seconds left in the first period but the Jets were the second-best team in that frame and never caught up.
