For the first time since 1983, professional tour golf returns next week to Niakwa Country Club, the Winnipeg layout designed by iconic Canadian architect Stanley Thompson.
The PGA Tour Canada-Mackenzie Tour starts a rotation of venues with next week’s Players Cup. The tour today is about "Who’s Next?" as it establishes a clear ladder all the way to the PGA Tour.
But history belongs in the conversation next week at Niakwa, where Thompson’s creation has stood the test of time.
Thompson’s work here, though sparse compared to other regions of the country, is among the 145 or so courses he is credited with designing or constructing before his death in 1953.
