Hutchinson Community College basketball coach Steve Eck started with Steve Woodberry, moved to Tiny Archibald, changed his mind, and finished with Allen Iverson.
His is not referencing that trio for their scoring skills or, in the case of Archibald and Iverson, their NBA fame. It’s their toughness and willingness to overcome size issues that reminds him of sophomore Samajae Haynes-Jones.
Haynes-Jones (5-foot-11, 170 pounds) gave Wichita State a non-binding commitment on Thursday. Above all, Eck said the Shockers are getting a player who punches above his weight and height.
“When we play pickup games, he doesn’t call any fouls,” Eck said.
