WICHITA, Kan. – Final accounting numbers are in for last week's men's basketball exhibition between Wichita State and Newman University.
After expenses, the event raised $45,000 for the American Red Cross to assist with hurricane and other disaster relief efforts.
"The generosity of Wichitans never ceases to amaze me," WSU Director of Athletics Darron Boatright said. "We're grateful to the 5,300-plus fans who showed up, on short notice, to cheer on the Shockers and Jets and support a very worthy cause."
Newman Athletic Director Vic Trilli added:
"This was an amazing event that our two schools were able to put on to benefit disaster relief.
