Wichita State’s Veith sets school record in NCAA decathlon

Wichita State junior Hunter Veith set a school record in the decathlon and earned All-American honors on Thursday in the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore.

Veith, from Cheney, finished with 7,866 points, one point. Austin Bahner held the WSU mark with 7,847 in 2013.

He finished sixth, one point behind fifth-place finisher Scott Filip of Rice, to earn first-team All-American honors as one of the top eight.

Earlier Thursday, Veith finished third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.40 seconds and fourth in the pole vault at 15 feet, 9 1/4 inches.

He placed ninth in the javelin (183-6) and 21st in the discus (120-5).
