Taryn Torgerson earned medalist honors and Wichita State’s women’s golf team shot a record 884 to win its third straight Missouri Valley Conference championship on Tuesday in Chicago.
Torgerson, a sophomore from Buhler, carded a final-round 71 to finish at 2-under-par 214, one shot ahead of Evansville’s Kayla Katterhenry. Torgerson won her first tournament as a Shocker with a personal-best 54-hole score. She is the third WSU golfer to win the MVC title, joining Alejandra Arellano (2015) and Anne Vandermillen (1987).
WSU’s 20-over 884 at Harborside International Golf Center shattered the MVC mark of 899 by Southern Illinois in 2007.
