Wichita State cross country teams won’t push the pace until later in the schedule

Wichita State’s cross country season started two weeks ago. In some ways, it remains two weeks away.

“It’s like we’re preparing for the season, but the season doesn’t really start until late for us,” coach Kirk Hunter said.

The first two weekends served largely as training runs. Hunter is prioritizing rest and hoping it pays off in late October and early November.

WSU’s top runners stayed home when the team went to the Cowboy Duals on Sept 1 in Stillwater, Okla. WSU didn’t face another NCAA Division I team in the JK Gold Classic two days later.
