Wichita State basketball coaches can lock in on class of 2018 in their search for post players

A recruiting period for NCAA basketball coaches starts Friday. For Wichita State, it is a chance to implement long-range plans, while keeping an eye on the immediate future.

The Shockers don’t have a scholarship senior on the 2016-17 roster. There are seven juniors, five of whom play in the frontcourt. When coaches fan out Friday to watch practices and open gyms and visit with players and coaches, they will spend time with athletes in the class of 2017 and more time on high school juniors or junior college freshmen.

“We’re probably spending a majority of time on the 2018 class,” WSU coach Gregg Marshall said “But we’ve identified a handful to a dozen (from the class of 2017) that we’re very intrigued by and we’re going to see some of them and we’re going to see some (in the class of 2018).
