Wichita State survived a scare to advance to the second round of the National Invitational Tournament.
Coach Gregg Marshall collected his career-win No. 500. In 1998, Marshall coached Winthrop to beat Furman 60-59 in his only meeting with the team.
The Shockers will advance to play Clemson on Sunday.
