Shockers Suffer First Loss of Season to Belmont

WICHITA – Wichita State women's basketball dropped its first game of the season, 75-55, to Belmont Saturday afternoon in Charles Koch Arena.

Emily La Chapell led a balanced Bruin team to its first win of the season with 17 points as four Belmont players finished in double figures, outscoring the Shockers 47-25 in the second half.

Despite improved free throw (10-for-14, .714) and three-point (7-for-23, .304) shooting from the Shockers, Wichita State (1-1) struggled from the field, shooting 19-for-69 (.279) overall and 7-for-32 (.219) in the second half.

Belmont (1-1) took a 10-point lead at the end of the first quarter, but Wichita State battled back in the second, holding the Bruins to just seven points in the quarter.
