CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Trailing 2-1 and down to their final out in the top of the ninth, Wichita State scored three runs on a Charlotte error to steal a 4-2 win on Saturday night at Robert and Mariam Hayes Stadium.
Facing Charlotte closer Joseph Taylor (2-3), the Shockers loaded the bases on two singles and a walk sandwiched around two outs. Head coach summoned true freshman as a pinch hitter; after taking a strike, Carlson hit a sharp line drive to right that 49ers right fielder Noah Furcht misplayed, rolling all the way to the wall and scoring the three Shocker baserunners for a 4-2 lead.
