WICHITA, Kan. - Coming off its first ever NCAA Regional Final last season, the Wichita State softball team began its fall season with a 19-1 win over Avila at Wilkins Stadium on Saturday.
Six Shockers collected two or more hits, with junior Madison Perrigan hitting the first home run since the new outfield fence was installed in the bottom of the 10th inning. Sophomore Neleigh Herring added five RBI while Caitlin Bingham, Hailey Martinez, and Erin McDonald combined for nine strikeouts on the mound.
Perrigan drove in the game's first run with a single to first base, with Herring following that up with a three-run double to left field.
