LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Wichita State qualified two track and field athletes for the NCAA Championship before lightning delayed the 2016 West Preliminaries Friday afternoon at Rock Chalk Park, and added a third, javelin thrower Damien Odle after the delay.
Skylar Arneson was the first to qualify, throwing the hammer 207-7/63.28m before Thursday's delay. Arneson's qualifying throw came on his first throw before Thursday's rain delay and helped him to a ninth-place finish.
Ashley Petersen was the second Shocker so far to qualify, and will make her second trip to the NCAA Championship to compete in the high jump.
