Shockers Defeat Newman in Exhibition, 58-49

WICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita State women's basketball team started things off on the right foot Wednesday night in Charles Koch Arena, defeating Newman University, 58-49 in the first exhibition game of the 2016-17 season.

Rangie Bessard led the Shockers with 19 points and nine rebounds, while Keke Thompson contributed with nine points and three rebounds. Diamond Lockhart also added nine rebounds.

Newman was led by Hannah Alexander who had a game-high 23 points, while also pulling down nine rebounds.

A layup and an unconventional three-point play by Bessard helped the Shockers go on a 12-2 run in the fourth quarter to give WSU a 56-47 lead with 3:53 left in the game.
