The Shockers reminded everyone what a big basketball game at Koch Arena can create. No. 3 Houston came to town and the Shockers responded.
Wichita State played with a lead for 22-plus minutes, twice as long as the Cougars on Thursday. They rebounded and matched Houston's famed physical style and hustle. They minimized turnovers and got to the basket with drives and finishes.
That kept the fans – attendance of 7,274 – engaged and a factor.
"The fan base – I call the Roundhouse the loud house," Houston coach Kelvin Sampson said.
