PROVO, Utah – No. 9 BYU stayed undefeated by defeating Wichita State 3-0 in the BYU Nike Invitational. The Cougars won by scores of 25-16, 25-12 and 25-20.
Tabitha Brown led the Shockers with eight kills, while Kali Eaken had 13 assists and Jordan Roberts had seven digs.
SET 1:
• No. 9 BYU ended the set on a 10-1 run to win 25-16
• BYU raced out to a 14-10 lead, but the Shockers used two Grace Burken kills to pull within 14-12
• Two Cougar hitting errors and another Burken kill tied the score at 15, but the Cougars ended the set on a 10-1 run to win 25-16
• Burken led the Shockers with three kills in the set
SET 2:
• BYU pulled away for a dominating 25-12 win in the second set
• The Cougars took an 11-6 lead on a block, but back to-back service aces by Tabitha Brown cut the lead to 12-10
• BYU answered with an 11-0 run to take a 23-10 lead and won the set 25-12
SET 3:
• BYU swept the match with a 25-20 win in the third set
• An Alex Koon kill gave WSU a 7-5 lead, but BYU scored three-straight to take an 8-7 lead
• A Brown kill put the Shockers up 13-12, but the Cougars used a 7-0 run for a 19-13 lead
• Two kills and a service ace by Brown helped pull WSU to 21-19, but BYU held on to win the set 25-20
