The potential noise from Wichita State fans in Koch Arena forced Tulane coach Mike Dunleavy to do something he’s never done in his two years since returning to coach at the collegiate level and pull out a trick from his 17-year coaching career in the NBA.
Dunleavy, who coached the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1991 NBA Finals and also had stints with the Milwaukee Bucks, Portland Trailblazers, and Los Angeles Clippers, said Tulane spent the two days prior to Wednesday’s game learning hand signals for offensive play calls when the inevitable crowd noise drowned out verbal communication.
