WICHITA, Kan. - Two Wichita State softball student-athletes have earned All-Missouri Valley Scholar-Athlete accolades in 2017. Sophomore Laurie Derrico was named to the first team, while senior Katie Malone was named honorable mention.
Derrico, a sophomore from Sterling, Okla., has a 3.86 GPA in exercise science, and Malone, a senior from Crete, Neb., has a GPA of 3.29 in biological sciences.
The criteria for the Valley's Scholar-Athlete Team, parallels the CoSIDA standards for Academic All-America voting. Nominees must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average.
