FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Wichita State's Arantxa Cortez cleared a personal-best 4.16m/13'7.75" to move up to No. 2 in the American Athletic Conference Friday at the John McDonnell Invitational.
The junior from Lima, Peru placed fifth in the pole vault, clearing back-to-back outdoor personal bests, making 4.01m/13'1.74" on first attempt and 4.16m/13'7.75" on second attempt. Cortez's clearance ranks second all-time in Shocker history behind Brooke Demo's 4.20m/13'9.25". Wichita State pole vault coach Aliyah Fertig claimed the win with a clearance of 4.36m/14'3.5".
