Bob Lutz: Shockers dominating the Valley like it’s never been dominated

For three seasons – 1970-71 through 1972-73 – the UCLA Bruins were 42-0 in Pacific-8 Conference play while in the midst of the greatest dynasty in college basketball — and maybe all of sports.

During a 10-season stretch during which the Bruins won nine national championships from 1963-64 through 1972-73, UCLA won 134 Pac-8 games and lost seven.

Flabbergasting.

Under Adolph Rupp, Kentucky was 42-0 in the SEC from 1950-51 through 1953-54 — Kentucky did not play the 1952-53 season because of a point-shaving scandal.

Then there’s Indiana, which from 1973-74 through 1975-76 went 48-2 in the Big Ten under Bob Knight.
