Western Michigan (8-9-1, 6-4-1 MAC) secured a place in the Mid-American Conference quarterfinal on Thursday night after defeating Northern Illinois 2-1 on the road. The Broncos finished third in the conference and will host the first round of the postseason tournament.
The Broncos dominated the Huskies in the final regular season game posting a 22-5 shot advantage and only allowing two shots to reach goalkeeper Maggie Rogers.
The first goal of the match came from freshmen Suzuna Shubukawa in the 34th minute. Junior Bailey Korhorn sent in a low cross from the right wing that found Shubukawa on the back post who volleyed the ball into the net for her first collegiate goal.
