Western Michigan senior quarterback Jon Wassink has been named the winner of the Wuerffel Trophy, as announced by the organization on Tuesday.
The trophy is known as college football’s premier award for community service and is annually awarded to the Football Bowl Subdivision player who best combines community service with academic and athletic achievement. The award is named after 1996 Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Danny Wuerffel from the University of Florida.
Wassink joins Tim Hiller as Western Michigan recipients of the Wuerffel Trophy, as Hiller was named the recipient in 2009. WMU joins Oklahoma as the only two programs in the country to have multiple winners.
