WMU's skill position depth a difference-maker in Year 2 of Lester era

KALAMAZOO, MI - The phrase "Next man up" is tossed around a lot in a sport like football, where injuries are an inevitable part of the game.

This year, the Western Michigan coaches feel like they can say it with a little more confidence.

On a day in which WMU was missing two of its top targets, Broncos quarterback Jon Wassink had one of his best outings, completing 20 of 25 passes for 236 yards and three touchdowns in a 34-15 Week 4 win at Georgia State that evened the team's record to 2-2.

Wide receiver Dee Eskridge and tight end Gio Ricci were both held out of action as game-time decisions, but the next-man-up mantra paid off, as reserve receiver Keishawn Watson caught his first touchdown pass of the season and back-up tight end Brett Borske turned the first catch of his college career into a 17-yard score.
