WMU women’s basketball downed by NIU in close matchup

Western Michigan’s women’s basketball was defeated 60-51 Saturday by Northern Illinois. The loss moves the Broncos to an overall record of 10-13.

Junior guards Alli Carlson and Marina Asensio led in scoring with 11 and 10 points respectively. Carlson and graduate student Hannah Spitzley grabbed two steals each. WMU also proved more efficient than the Huskies in converting turnovers to points, scoring 18 to NIU’s 11.

Northern Illinois was the first on the board with an early layup. A layup and three-pointer from guard Artemis Kouki kept Western in range 6-5. Evyn Carrier contributed a jumper and a layup to leave the Broncos trailing by 1 at the end of the first quarter.
