KALAMAZOO, MI - Since taking over the Western Michigan football program in January 2017, Tim Lester's offensive identity can be best described in three words: Pound. The. Rock.
But even the second-year head coach was surprised to see how run-heavy his team was Saturday in its 35-10 win over rival Central Michigan.
"We threw it nine times; can you believe that?" Lester asked during his weekly press conference Monday.
For longtime followers of WMU football, the nine pass attempts in a game is figure that's hard to fathom.
In an offense that has featured accomplished quarterbacks over the years, including Zach Terrell, Tim Hiller, Alex Carder and Lester himself, that number is the Broncos' fewest in recent memory.
