KALAMAZOO, MI - After backing up sophomore Josh Grant for the first three weeks of the season, freshman Gavin Peddie was named Western Michigan's starting place kicker heading into the Bronco's Week 4 matchup with Georgia State.
Safe to say, the young kicker was up for the challenge.
The Grandville native connected on two field goal attempts and all four extra point tries to earn Mid-American Conference West Division Special Teams Player of the Week honors, the league announced Monday.
Peddie's first field goal came from 24 yards out and gave the Broncos a 3-0 first-quarter lead over the Panthers, while his career-best 38-yard kick increased WMU's advantage to 13-3.
