WMU hockey wins the NCHC Championship

Western Michigan Hockey has won its first NCHC Frozen Faceoff championship in program history. This is Western Michigan’s third overall conference championship in program history. The Broncos defeated Denver in the championship game 4-3 in double overtime after defeating North Dakota 4-2 in the semifinal.

On top of the championship win, three Broncos were also recipients of NCHC awards. Alex Bump was named Forward of the Year, Tim Washe was named Defensive Forward of the Year and head coach Pat Ferschweiler was named the Herb Brooks Coach of the Year.

It is just the second time a Bronco has won Forward of the Year, and it is the first time a Bronco has won Defensive Forward of the Year.
