WMU hockey gained a point in the standings but fell to 2-6-2 overall after losing in a shootout to the No. 8 ranked Denver Pioneers on Saturday night in the NCHC pod finale. The contest ended with a 3-3 tie in regulation and went to three rounds of a shootout in which Denver secured the extra point.
This was another game that WMU came out of the gates early and got on the board first, taking a 1-0 within the first three minutes of regulation thanks to a goal from Luke Grainger. After Grainger got the Broncos on the board, the rest of the period was all defense and goaltending from both teams.
