WMU hockey earned its first win of the season, beating 13th-ranked St. Cloud State 2-1 on Wednesday.
The Broncos held a 2-0 advantage in the final 30 seconds when the Huskies got a goal from Nick Perbix with just 19 seconds left, using an empty net to create a power play-like situation as both teams had a man in the penalty box. The Broncos were able to keep St. Cloud’s final desperation attack at bay and secure the win.
The game got out to a slow start as both teams struggled to get any good scoring chances until Luke Grainger went to the penalty box for hooking 7:25 into the game.
