NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- The Western Michigan hockey team opened 2016 with a 7-1 loss at No. 15/14 Notre Dame at the Compton Family Ice Arena on Fridaynight.
The Fighting Irish scored all seven of their goals in the first two periods to head into the third period with a 7-0 lead. Freshman Griffen Molino netted a power play goal at 12:24 in the third period for WMU's lone goal on the night. Lukas Hafner made 34 saves on the night in 51 minutes of action, with Collin Olson spelling him for eight minutes in the second period.
