WMU football wins MAC Championship, captures Cotton Bowl bid against Wisconsin

The last time the Bronco football team hoisted the Mid-American Conference championship trophy, head coach P.J. Fleck was eight years old, and none of the current players had even been born yet.

“There’s no better feeling than letting our seniors go out like this,” linebacker Robert Spillane said, who sealed the victory with an interception to halt the driving Ohio offense in the final minute of the game. “[The seniors] were the foundation. [Corey Davis and Zach Terrell] built the program from 1-11. They were the true foundation.”

Spillane ended the championship game in the same fashion as he ended the season opener against Northwestern University when he caused a fumble to seal the first victory in a perfect season.
