Western Michigan football is continuing to gear up for a very uncertain season, and the special teams unit returns familiar faces at kicker and punter.
In 2019, WMU ranked tied for No. 114 in the FBS in field goal percentage at 58.8% (10/17), and it hasn’t had a field goal percentage above 70% since 2016, when the Broncos went 13-1 and made a Cotton Bowl appearance. Special teams coordinator Joe Palcic said he is confident that will prove in 2020 even with the same kickers the team has had the past two years.
“It will be open competition this summer going into our first game and we’ll compete every day and keep track of who’s doing what and the best one between those two (redshirt sophomore Gavin Peddie and senior Thiago Kapps) will earn the spot,” Palcic said.
