Senior AJ Thomas showed he needed no adjustment period to shift to a new position as he put together a huge performance in his first game as a SAM linebacker.
Thomas had been a starter at safety for the Broncos last year, but when junior Zaire Barnes got hurt during training camp the Broncos asked Thomas to step into a new role and he showed he could handle it perfectly in his first start on Wednesday at Akron.
In the first quarter, Western Michigan held a 10-7 lead over the Zips on its second offensive drive of the game when Thomas jumped a route from his spot in zone coverage to intercept the pass in stride.
