WMU football has added Jelani Willis, an athlete from White Station High School in Tennessee, to its 2021 recruiting class.
Willis announced his commitment to Western Michigan via a video posted to his Twitter account on Saturday.
Playing primarily quarterback and safety in high school, Willis’ highlight reel shows very little passing, and he is expected to play safety or wide receiver in college. Willis has good size for either position, standing 6-foot-3 and weighing 205 pounds at the end of his junior year.
Willis’ hard-hitting ability and skill at making plays with the ball in his hands could make him an immediate player on special teams, while some improvement is likely needed on his wrapping up to make him a more steady tackler if WMU puts him on defense, or route running work if they put him at receiver, where he has limited experience.
