The Kalamazoo County Commissioners passed a motion to finalize the sale of a 320,000 square-foot plot of land that will give way to a new downtown arena. Western Michigan’s hockey and basketball programs are said to compete in games in the arena once it is built.
“The current vision will address facility deficiencies which inhibit our student athletes’ experience, hinder our ability to recruit and compete at the highest level, and will provide amenities that fans expect, students deserve and that our community can enjoy,” WMU Director of Athletics Dan Bartholomae said in an interview with WMU Athletics.
